Xbox Controller is not connecting to Wireless Adapter

Are you using an Xbox one controller?

If you are using an Xbox one controller, I suggest you to refer the steps in the article

How to connect an Xbox One Wireless Controller to a Windows PC and see if that helps in resolving the issue.

I would also suggest you to uninstall all the hidden devices under USB hive and check if you are able to connect the wireless adapter. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the hidden drivers:

Press and hold the Windows + X key on the keyboard.
Select Device manager.
Click View tab.
Select Show hidden devices.
Expand Universal Serial Bus and remove all the greyed out devices. To remove the greyed out devices, right click on the device and select
uninstall.
Restart your computer.

Sometimes, you may find yourself running into trouble with an Xbox Wireless Controller driver error, or the controller not registering button presses on Windows 11. If you have a Deep Pink Xbox Wireless Controller, or an Elite Series 2, not being able to use your favorite Xbox controller on your PC can be a real drag.

Just like on Windows 10, it's really easy to update an Xbox controller using a Windows 11 PC. Just install the Xbox Accessories app from the Microsoft Store, plug in the controller to your PC, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Fix Xbox Wireless Controller driver error

More than a few Windows users report connectivity issues with their Xbox controllers since the upgrade to Windows 11. The common problem that people run into is when trying to connect or "pair" an Xbox controller to PC via Bluetooth. When connecting an Xbox controller via Bluetooth, people may run into problems.

The only real way to connect an Xbox controller to your PC is using the Xbox Accessories app on Windows 11. Xbox Accessories is an app that helps you edit the functions and buttons of Xbox Wireless Controllers, headsets, and other related Microsoft gaming accessories.

Update Xbox Wireless Controller with Xbox Accessories app

Here's how to update and use your Xbox controller with the Xbox Accessories app on Windows 11.

1. Download and install the Xbox Accessories app from the Microsoft Store.
2. Open the Xbox Accessories app on your PC.
3. Connect your controller to your PC using USB as shown and click Continue when you are ready to update your controller.

4. Once the update is finished, you can use the Xbox Accessories app to check for new firmware updates for your controller(s) and other Xbox peripherals. Click the three dot menu underneath your preferred controller.

5. From here, you can check if updates are available, rename your controller, vibrate the controller, or turn on Copilot. Copilot allows you to use two controllers to act as one in games and apps.

The person who turns on Copilot for their controller is the pilot. The pilot gets all Xbox achievements and gamerscore. The other person is the copilot and does not get any credit for Xbox achievements or gamerscore.

The Xbox Wireless Controller driver error I experienced stemmed from issues with my Bluetooth connection to my PC. Instead of dealing with issues connecting via Bluetooth, I found better control and less latency by using the Xbox Wireless Adapter on Windows 11.

가장 일반적으로 제시되는 대응책은 드라이버를 다시 설치하거나 리시버를 뽑았다 다시 꽂는 것. 하지만 나의 경우 바로 그때만 해결될 뿐, 일주일에 한두 번꼴로 계속해서 문제가 발생했다.

며칠간 해외 포럼을 뒤진 결과 레드스톤 이후 무선 리시버의 전원 관리 부분 드라이버에 문제 있다는 정보를 보게 되었다. 이에 따라 절전 옵션을 모두 비활성화했더니 드라이버가 죽는 경우가 많이 줄어들었다. 그래도 빈도가 줄어든 것일 뿐 완전히 해결된 것은 아니었다. 그러다 우연히 한 포럼에서 USB 3.0이 아닌 2.0 단자를 사용하라는 글을 발견, 그대로 했더니 이후 3개월 동안 단 한 번도 드라이버 문제가 발생하지 않고 있다.

1. 증상

패드(컨트롤러)에 전원을 넣을 시 패드와 리시버(어댑터) 모두 불이 깜빡이기만 할 뿐 사용은 불가
장치 관리자에서 확인 시 리시버 드라이버에 충돌(노란 느낌표) 발생

컴퓨터가 절전 모드에서 돌아올 때 높은 확률로 리시버 드라이버에 충돌 발생
드라이버를 재설치해도 그때만 문제가 해결될 뿐 계속해서 충돌 발생

2. 해결

리시버 전원 관리 속성에서 "전원을 절약하기 위해 컴퓨터가 이 장치를 끌 수 있음(A)" 옵션 해제
