뛰어난 하드웨어와 그에 걸맞는 엉망인 소프트웨어로 익히 알려진 켄싱턴의 트랙볼 드라이버가 얼마 전에 업데이트 되었다. 기존에 수년동안 사용되던 TrackballWorks가 아닌 KensingtonWorks라는 이름으로 새로 출시되었는데, 얘네들은 왜 자꾸 버전업 할 생각은 안하고 소프트웨어를 갈아 치우는지 모르겠네. 지금 사용중인 Kensington Slimblade도 최조에는 Slimblade driver로 시작해서 TrackballWorks로 넘어가더니, 이제는 KensingtonWorks를 사용하랜다. 보시다시피, 일단 외관이 좀 좋아졌다. 메트로 인터페이스 느낌도 나고.. 깔끔하니 좋다. 기능은 기존의 TrackballWorks와 동일하게 버튼 설정, 포인터 설정, 스크롤 설정으로 구분된다.

특이할 만한 점은 클라우드 바인딩이라고 트랙볼 설정을 구글드라이브나 원드라이브에 백업 할 수 있다는 점인데, 무선 트랙볼을 여기저기 가지고 다니면서 쓰는 사용자라면 상당히 편리한 기능일 듯. 다만 현재 버젼에서는 바인딩한 클라우드 계정이 자꾸 풀리는 버그가 있는 것 같다. 백업은 잘 되는데, 백업 할 때마다 클라우드 계정하고 연동을 시켜줘야 한다.

TrackballWorks 시절에 이 기능이 있었는지 가물가물 한데, 하여간 응용프로그램별로 트랙볼의 버튼 설정을 달리 할 수 있는 기능도 들어있다. 난 프로그램마다 할당한 기능을 외우기가 귀찮아서 이런 기능은 잘 안쓰는 편이지만 똑똑한 사람들은 편리하겠네.

아, 이번 업데이트에서 가장 괄목할 만한 변경점은 바로 마우스와 트랙볼을 같이 사용할 때, 마우스 휠의 스크롤 값이 1로 고정되는 버그가 없어졌다는 점이다. 울며 겨자먹기로 느릿느릿한 휠 스크롤을 사용하거나, 이런 저런 편법을 사용하던 시절은 이젠 안녕~ 마우스와 함께 쓰더라도 편하게 사용할 수 있다. 이거 하나만으로도 업데이트 할 가치는 100% 이다.
